Ondo 2020- PDP Women State Leader Charges Electoral Body for a Peaceful Election
Advocating and Enjoining the Independent National Electoral Commission on the need to ensure that it facilitate the peace conduct of the October 10 Gubernatorial election in Ondo State, the office of the Women State Leader of the People’s Democratic Party has lend it voice to admonishing the body to see that it carries it sole responsibility without preference to any political party and also adopting the virtues ofneutrality and transparency.
In a statement signed by the Ondo State Women leader, Hon. Princess Kemisola Adesanya, she explained that over the years electoral process in the state and federation has always been married with violence which in the long run denies the people the benefits of having their votes count
“37 years ago, Ondo State had a major unpalatable experience with election-related violence which has become a bloody reference point of elections in Nigeria. It was even said that this violence was one of the precursors of the military hijack of democracy later that year, 1983.”
She also added that, “ When elections are not representative of the votes of the people due to violence and violence related issues, then politicians so “elected” cannot have a sense of responsibility or link with the people.
When votes count, we will be able to move forward and ensure that individuals and political parties that will change the lives of the people get elected into offices.”
The State Women leader and a Two terms house of Assembly member of the state enjoined the body to do all its best in the discharge of its duties to resisting any form of electioneering violence as it negates the beauty and sole objective of a democracy as practiced in the nation.
