Declare state of emergency on insecurity, Coalition 2020 urges Buhari

Leaders of the Coalition 2020 have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency on the precarious insecurity situation confronting the country.

The Coalition made the call today during an emergency Leaders’ meeting held in Akure, the Ondo State Capital.

The Coalition an umbrella body of 30 political parties and 36 special interest organizations in Ondo State concluded (in line with the constitution, moral and spiritual dictates) that it is the responsibility of the government at every level to protect lives and properties of its citizens.

The Coalition added that the issues of insecurity in the country culminating in the recent killings of scores of farmers in Zabarmari, Bornu State and other. innocent Nigerians killed in various parts of the country, if not addressed with a sense of urgency may lead to unending famine and long standing economic recession that can erupt into more unexpected unhealthy reactions from Nigerians.

It said the recent gruesome killing of a First Class Monarch and the kidnapped of the wife of Chief of staff to the Governor of Ondo State is another shocking incident that calls for sober reflection on the security situation in the state and the Nation at large.

With every sense of patriotism, the group charged President Buhari and the (36) thirty six state Governors to decisively, practically wake up to the task of why they were being elected to lead millions of Nigerians by finding lasting solution to the incensant security loopholes across the country.

Nigerians are supposed to be sleeping with their eyes closed and move around with ease doing lawful business, but it’s very unfortunate that reverse is the case under a retired (War Veteran) General as President.

The Coalition urged the president to drop all sentiments and take drastic action that will lead the country out of the present insecurity doldrum it has found herself.

“If it will take the president a complete re-engineering of the security structures whereby it may culminate in the relief of the service chiefs of their duties for the country to be secured, let him do that, and engage fresh hands to handle a redefined security architecture for this Nation with a vibrant vigour.

The Coalition also call on the National Assembly to be alive to their mandate, which is to represent their respective constituents, by coming out with strong legislations that will stimulate an end to these daily killings of Nigerians across the 36 states

That as a matter of urgency, Government should come to terms with Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) in order to end the months of strike with a view to get our (Children) students back to school, with a strong patriotic consideration for the future of this Country.
