Like a saying in the Yoruba parlance that: “If a hen throws away my medicine, I will waste its eggs, one Mela Samaila, who went on such an unholy retaliatory mission against a church, has burnt his fingers.
Mela had been engaged as a security guard at Grace Nations Church (a.k.a. Liberation City) in the Ajodu-Abiodun area of Lagos State and had to be fired for his unruly behaviour.
But, last Monday, January 7, 2020, Mela went back to the church as a thief. He reportedly scale the fence, through what means he gained entry into the church premises.
As someone that was familiar with the church terrain, accomplishing his mission did not require too much of energy dissipation; he allegedly broke into the auditorium and went straight for the offering box.
He must have beaten the security men on guard, to be able to act the scenes unabatedly, more so that, according Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, “The suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the police at Ojodu Abiodun Divisional Headquarters from security men on duty at the church, at about 04:00am that a thief scaled the fence of the church, broke into the main auditorium and made away with the church offering box”.
Oyeyemi, in a press release made available to our reporter, hinted further that, “Upon the distress call, the DPO, CSP Eyitayo Akinluwade, quickly mobilized his patrol team to the scene, combed the area and, with the support of the church security guard, the suspect was arrested.
The said stolen offering box was, according to the PPRO, also recovered from him.
To this end, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo. Ajogun, has directed that the suspect be charged to court without delay as soon as investigation was concluded.
