Works Commissioner, Saka Ogunleye Seeks Residents Cooperation As Govt. Replaces Old Railings With Concrete Jersey, On Median Road At Post Office Junction To Texaco.

Ondo State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye has appealed to residents of the state to comply with government guidelines aimed at making Akure a befitting state capital.

Mr. Ogunleye gave the advice today in Akure during the replacement of the Median road railings with concrete jerseys from the Post Office to Texaco Filling Station.

“Our people have to learn to buy into government plans to make Akure a state capital deserving that name. The government led by late Evangelist Olumilua erected the overhead bridge. The move was to put an end to pedestrians crossing the median. Successive administrations have tried to stop the habit by erecting railings. Yet, hoodlums have been destroying the iron railings by cutting or outright removal, thereby making government to lose the money invested in the project. This innovation is the final government step to make people ease traffic flow by putting a stop to crossing the median by making use of the bridge. And hopefully nobody will flout the new directive.”

The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Works, Engineer Taiwo Otun explained that the development was to put a stop to people using the walkway for trading and activities of pickpockets area.

He added that the concrete jerseys were to cover over five hundred meters distance.

Only two of the three lanes were open for traffic as Hiab vehicles were used to block the two lanes on both sides of the road.

All the railings covering the entire road were uprooted and removed to give room for placing of the concrete jerseys.
