Compel herdsmen’s leaders to produce farmers’ killers, PDP tells Fayemi

FOLLOWING the killing by suspected Fulani herdsmen of two farmers; Mr Toyin Akeju , also known locally as Jisoro, and Mr Yusuf Onuche, the Peoples Democratic Party has called on Governor Kayode Fayemi to compel leaders of herders in the state to fish out the farmers’ killers .

The farmers were killed in Isaba Ekiti in the Ikole council area of Ekiti State .The state PDP on Sunday decried the incessant killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen in the state and challenged the governor to stop playing politics , but take decisive steps to end the mindless killings .

The opposition party , in a statement by its state Publicity Secretary , Raphael Adeyanju , titled , ‘ Stop playing politics with lives of Ekiti people , be proactive against herdsmen, PDP tells Fayemi ’ , said, “ The governor must stop shedding crocodile tears and acting political correctness on the killings in the state .“ It is important that leaders of Fulani herders in the state are summoned by the government and handed a marching order to produce killers of those persons in Isaba Ekiti because they cannot claim not to know the killers among their people .“ The governor has to engage leaders of the Fulanis as done by his predecessor , Ayo Fayose , when he was governor so that they can join hands with government to flush out criminal elements among them .

The killing by herders must stop now and Governor Fayemi must act with sincerity of purpose .”Fayemi vows to fish out , prosecute farmers ’ killersMeanwhile, the Ekiti State Governor , Dr Kayode Fayemi , on Sunday expressed sadness over the alleged killing by Fulani herdsmen of two farmersFayemi reiterated the determination of his government to fish out and prosecute the killers , saying , “ We will get to the bottom of this sad occurrence and bring all the criminals involved to book .”

The governor spoke at Isaba Ekiti during his condolence visits to the community and families of the bereaved , adding , “ This is one killing too many and we must do all we can to protect all citizens. May the souls of the departed rest in peace . ”

The dead bodies of the two farmers who were shot dead in the farm at Isaba Ekiti on Friday were recovered on Saturday morning following which angry residents took to the streets to protest the killing.

The state government , in a statement by the Information Commissioner , Akin Omole , titled , ‘Killing of two farmers in Isaba Ekiti’, said, “ We empathise with the Asaba of Isaba -Ekiti, Oba Olanrewaju Adeyanju , the families of our slain kinsmen and the entire people of Isaba – Ekiti on this tragic occurrence , which has understandably led to demonstrations in protest of the killings .”
